Volunteer
Did you know that NBGS is managed entirely by volunteers? There is no office, no phone and no staff. Replies to your messages may be delayed, but we will respond as soon as possible.
NBGS is always looking for volunteers for various projects and positions. You do not need to live in New Brunswick to join our team. Financial contributions are also welcomed.
Leadership opportunities:
Leadership opportunities are available at both the Branch and Provincial levels. Zoom allows for active participation from anywhere!
Don't want to jump right in to a leadership role? We are looking for people to serve on committees or simply to help out with setup at a branch meeting. Can you help set up zoom equipment for hybrid meetings?
Give us a helping hand to share the workload. Let us know what areas interest you.
Project opportunities:
We often have small and large transcription or indexing projects available. Contact projects@nbgs.ca for more information.
The NB Cemetery Records Project is looking for volunteers to visit cemetery offices in NB to distribute a survey.
The Obituaries Project needs indexers to use online newspapers and enter obituary data into a spreadsheet.
Individual opportunities
- Are you willing to do lookups at local archives or museums for other members of NBGS? We now have an area to post your contact information on the Research Assistance page. Use the form below to state your contact information and the specific archives or museums that you can visit.
- Do you live in the Fredericton area? Looking for a volunteer to pick up the mail once or twice a week at the post office. It would then need to be sorted and distributed.
Other ways to contribute:
- Can you write an article that would be suitable for Generations?
- Do you have a register page from a family bible to contribute?
- Have you published a family history that you are willing to share?
- Do you have an ancestral report from your genealogy software that you’d like to add to our website?
- Do you have photos or maps of historic events or places of interest to donate?
- Are you willing to give a formal presentation at a branch meeting to talk about your research, a book you have written or a genealogy-related topic? Contact your branch for the opportunity to be the speaker at a meeting.
